Materials Requirements Planning (MRP)

MRP helps you forecast exactly what materials you'll need for upcoming production runs and suggests when to reorder.

How MRP Works

  1. Production Plans: Create distilling and packaging plans in your Production Schedule
  2. Recipe Requirements: MRP calculates botanical and spirit needs based on your recipes
  3. Inventory Check: Compares requirements against current stock levels
  4. Reorder Suggestions: Shows shortages and recommended order dates

Key Parameters

Planning Horizon

Set how many days ahead to forecast (typically 30-90 days)

Base Spirit Settings

  • Source ABV: The ABV% of GNS as purchased (e.g., 96%)
  • Charge ABV: The diluted ABV% for your still charge (e.g., 37.5%)
  • MRP calculates how much high-proof spirit to buy based on your actual still charge needs

Assumed Final ABV

Default final product ABV for calculations when not specified in production plans

Reading MRP Results

For Botanicals

  • Shows kg needed vs. kg on hand
  • Accounts for recipe scaling and charge volumes
  • Suggests order dates based on supplier lead times

For Base Spirits

  • Shows source litres needed (what to purchase)
  • Displays equivalent charge volume (what goes in still)
  • Example: "Need 13.4L of 70% GNS (= 24.6L charge @ 37.5%)"

For Packaging

  • Calculates container and packaging material needs
  • Based on planned bottling volumes and packaging recipes

Tips for Accurate MRP

  1. Keep production plans updated with realistic dates and volumes
  2. Set supplier lead times on all inventory items
  3. Use actual charge parameters in your production plans
  4. Review and adjust MRP suggestions based on your experience
